Bay area bankruptcy attorneys :: lawyers are not all the same. We know this is not the easiest time in your life. We truly do everything possible to provide the best bankruptcy experience for a reasonable fee. That means explaining the process in detail and returning calls and emails quickly. We pride ourselves on making sure you know what is going on every step of the way. This starts during your initial free consultation. We will provide you with our Client Information Form to complete prior to the free consultation. We will also want you to have a couple recent pay statements to verify your income.

If you do choose to retain our services we ask for a retainer of $50 - $100. The remainder of the fees and costs can be made in payments. There are two required courses that must be completed. The first one, credit counseling, must be completed before the case can be filed. The course can be completed online for $5.00 if single and $10 if filing jointly. The second course, Financial Management, is completed after the case is filed. It is also online and costs $7.95 if filing single or jointly. Other law firms will send you to providers of the required course that cost $60 or more. There is no reason to pay more for the required course then $12.95 for both if filing single, or $17.95 if filing jointly. We will also want to obtain a credit report. The company we use charges $35 for a single person and $70 for a joint credit report.

Once all of our attorney fees and costs are paid in full that is when we want you to provide us with copies of the documents necessary to complete an accurate petition on your behalf. We will then sit down with you and review the petition to make sure it is accurate. Once the petition is reviewed and signed we will file it with the court. From the time you provide us all of the documents and information we need it generally takes us seven to ten days to draft the petition. In most cases there is only one appearance you have to make. It is as the 341 meeting of the creditors. This meeting is with the trustee assigned to the case to administer the bankruptcy estate. It is rare for a creditor to attend and ask questions.
